AMD upgrade existing Pentium?

I'm torn at this time. I have a P4 3.0Ghz Prescott in stock, and I 2GB RAM 433Mhz. My video card is an nVidia GeForce 7800GS. sound card is a Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatality. Here is the question … I'm thinking of upgrading my computer. Is it really worth spending money on a new motherboard, RAM and CPU, bearing in mind that I have the 7800GS GPU? I was looking between AMD Socket AM2 +, the Athlon X2 and Opteron, but the speed at which it can not go faster than I'm currently running, some RAM and the speed of Prescott is still a chip doubles heart. It works quite reliable. I can use burning software such as Cakewalk Sonar often, but I can also play many 3D games. Is it worth my time now to update all, given what I have works very well. If so, to record with Cakewalk and play Diablo 3 when it launches, that AMD would interest me? Thanks!

Athlon 64 and Phenom are much better than P4 2.4GHz … Single-core Athlon 64 better than a P4 3 GHz Athlons quite easily have a more efficient architecture, and can do much more work Watch the clock. Dual Core is even better. Prescott is not a dual-core, is a double heart using Hypeprthreading false sense of having two cores, but actually only one physical core. A true dual-core with two physical cores would be much better. You can go to a relatively fast Athlon X2, 4 GB of DDR2-1066, and a decent life Gigabyte AM2 + motherboard for about $ 170 + reinstall OS. http:/ http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.186160 / Www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128376 If you can afford a good Phenom X4 Quad-Core II will be much better.
