How to select stocks?

I would like to start investing in stocks, but with numerous options, so I do not know exactly where to start. All I know is I'm looking for a moderate return, nothing crazy. I am also more inclined to trade assets (but perhaps not the day of negotiation, since I have enough time). However, do not want to hold stocks for years. I have no intention to buy penny stocks. I will not go and advice blindly. As I still remember the time when the so-called "financial adviser" suggested that I take more of my money in shares of XYZ 401K internet. It was the late 90s, and you know the rest of the story. Thank God, resisted this time! I know that the negotiation is not an easy thing, but I want test (and I'll try to be more careful?). Where I can start looking? What is your experience? Thanks

I suggest you open an account with a online broker like Ameritrade and Scottrade. I suggest you go to your local library to see if they have the Value Line Investment Survey. If they do, a new problem comes once a week. Value rates stocks based on line speed (what to do next year), safety (risk level of the population) and techniques. I used to do my own research on stocks. I realized that I had rather be an investor and trader. The difference for me is that I do not have the the date of hire. By investing so I have not been on market days and I'm focusing on companies that own stock in or considering buying. Works for me
