I just wanted to know if a gm 200r4 tranny can hold up behind a 70 caddy 472 engine?

IAM PUTTING THE CADDY/200R4 COMBO IN MY 56 MERC MONTCLAIR THAT WEIGHS 3600LBS. ITS BASICALLY A STOCK 472, BUT THE STOCK HORSEPOWER/TORQUE RATINGS FOR THE ‘70 ENGINE IS 375HP AND 525LBS OF TORQUE….I AM A HUGE FAN OF CADDY ENGINES BECAUSE OF THEIR POWER-TO-WEIGHT RATIOS…..AWESOME! HOPEFULLY THE TRANNY CAN BE BUILT UP…IAM SURE IT CAN ‘CAUSE MID 80′S BUICK GNX’s HAD THE 200R4 AND THEY HOLD UP TO SOME SERIOUS TUBO POWER….EVEN FROM THE V6’s. SO YEA….I HAVE A 200R4 IN GREAT CONDITION SO I AM JUST GOING TO THROW IT IN WITH THE CADDY ENGINE AND SEE HOW IT RUNS. IF IT BLOWS….THEN IT BLOWS! NEVER KNOW TILL YOU TRY! ILL BABY IT AT FIRST…THEN SLOWLY TEST THE TRANNY TO SEE WHAT It CAN TAKE. IAM SURE THE 200R4 CAN BE BUILT UP….HOPEFULLY!

After the 200r4 blows which it will ( they are known to be alittle weak ) I would try the 700r4. Its alot stronger. I put it behind a built 350TPI 500hp and a ton of torque in a monte ss with no problem whats so ever, and I beat the hell out of it almost daily. If you ask someone that has a built GN they will prob say they did a tranny swap.
